The Circus is in town!!

Took the family to the circus last night. We saw “The Greatest Show on Earth” The Ringling Brothers one. I can say after seeing one of the other circus’ that Ringling Brothers is the Greatest!! The kids had such a good time, my husband was OOHing and AAHHing more then our kids sometimes. If you go you must go the hour before and check out the pre-shows, and try on the wardrobes. Both Dennis and Catheirne loved it! Even my 15 year old enjoyed himself. We attended a special event sponsored by Mom Central prior to the show and we had a blast.

Getting to see the performers before the show, really got my kids into it. When we went to the show afterwards, Catherine kept out pointing and shouting ‘there’s another girl’, and ‘I want a tutu’, it was adordable.

Good almost afternoon

I woke up this morning feeling a lot better then I did yesterday, but still not well enough to go to the Library. I am way annoyed with that, but that’s the way it is. So I started cleaning my house and of course my aunt calls and wants me on facebook. Here I am being such a good mommy housewife cleaning and working and I’m forced to be on facebook. Now it’s two hours later, I’ve changed a diaper and changed the channel to Diego but I’m still on this stupid computer. I have just helped a little girl go potty and will now dress her, so I will sign off. Now a long post, but hey I finally did something other then add flair.

Finally is Smart Mommy up and running. The actual webpage address is www.smartmommyshopping.com. I am so excited. All items offered are mom made, produced or designed. Our coup de gras is the Nursers Purse. It’s a great diaper bag for the moms that nurse, not only does your nursing cover had in your shoulder strap but also the changing pad is attached, and buttons closed.

We also offer slings, personal organizers, childrens wear, and diapers.

Man have I been busy

I have been working so hard trying to start a new business, still run my mommy group, volunteer at church, oh yeah.. and take care of my family and home. I lost my day care about a month ago. They ran out of babies and they couldn’t afford to take care of my little ones just one day a week so now no day care. Because of that I dropped both League of Women Voters and United Way. In one way it’s great, I have more time at home, but in another way it’s awlful. I no longer have Christina time. Not me time, but Christina time. That time when all of my accomplishments are because of Christina, not because I’m Robert’s Mommy or Dennis’ wife but Christina. The respect and acknowledgement I recieve is because of what I accomplish. I no longer get that. As a Mommy I take care of my children because I have to. I have these tiny little lives that if I don’t take care of will perish. Even my husband needs me to make sure he goes to the doctor, purchases hearing aids, eats something other then In-n-Out! None of ths is because of Christina but because of his wife. That’s just the way it goes. I now feel very much a Wife With Kids. Maybe I should just quit using my name all together?

Starting a business

Well I started my home business 6 months ago and I’m getting no where. Granted I was a smart girl and I started a business that took very little money some networking but with the current economic situation nobody wants to hire an Event Designer. So I am starting something new. I’ve learned and haven’t burned any bridges so I’m sure many of the WAHM’s that I network with will be understanding. The new business is www.smartmommyshopping.com Seems like I’m going to have to start all over with the website. I went through www.thedesignshoppe.com a great Mom resource that I found out about through www.mompack.com. If you have a home based business Mom Pack is the best place for you. the group is free, your only cost is your marketing materials and the other women love helping you out. It’s a great win win situation.

I’ll update as soon as I have the site up and running.

Lorelei takes some great pictures! I was so worried since my daughter was teething and was not in the mood to be photographed, but Lorie did such a great job. I can’t wait for her to print them and then have them put on my wall. I honestly think I won’t have any more wall space after this.

Starting to Garden

I am starting both a vegetable garden and a succulent plant garden. I started my succulent plant garden earlier this year. I hated the yucky stuff in the front of the house, and my lawn is separated from the planter by a lot of brick, something I can’t just pull out myself. So I’m stuck trying to make it look pretty, be environmentally friendly and mommy friendly. I like gardening but I don’t have the time to water, weed, mulch and just fiddle with. My daughter enjoys gardening with me, any excuse to get dirty and play with new stuff is fun for her. So it’s a great experience for the both of us, but I still need it mommy friendly. I planted in jasmine (actually my husband and son did it for me for Mother’s Day), some orange flower thing that attracts butterflies but is drought resistant, blue prickly things and a green cirlce on red stem plant. I also threw in some pumpkin seeds as an experiment. So what I have is a garden that I’m slowly working on but no actual plan.

With my vegetable garden I want to start different then I did the front. I want an actual plan with vegetables my family will eat and that are easy to can and are still appetizing. Some of the vegetables I have found are, zucchini, cucumber, strawberries, bell peppers, lettuce, carrots, and potatoes. The area I have for this garden I think will hold all of this; I’m just not sure if these are going to be easy enough to work on or not. There is also the watering issue. I don’t always find time to go out and water my lawn and plants. My sprinklers have been devastated by gophers and no longer work. Seeing as I have yet to find a way to get rid of the gophers I don’t want to install a new system yet. I also can have a permanent above group system because of the dog. She’s still teething and enjoys chewing on everything I have asked her not to.

I was seriously looking into a rain barrel, not exactly how well it would work in the hot desert of California but I still wanted to try. In my research I have found that you can’t use rain water for your vegetable garden because of the poisons in the roofing material. There I go trying to be environmentally friendly and I find out my house is poison! I will still make my own rain barrel but I will be using it on my yard and my front garden.

Here are some links to making your own rain barrel. This one is my favorite so far. The instructions are so clear and easy to understand. Then there is the sand filteration system. Looks hard but I will be trying it later this year. Maybe I can still use on my vegetable garden. This site has a couple of different ideas that look very useful and easy to make. Last but not least you can’t forget the compost. I have decided against buying one and instead just have a heap in my backyard. So far it’s not attracting bugs, rodents or the dog. When it does I will look into building my own.

First post, I wonder if it’s worth it

Ok so my girlfriend posted her blog and I was so moved by her wonderful writing abilities and poetic way in which she expressed herself that I desired to do the same. So here I am writing some thoughts and wondering if I’m just being foolish. I’ll start with a little bit about me,

This October I will have been married for 3 years. I have a 14 year old son from a previous relationship, and 2 children under the age of 2 from this marriage. Even though my husband is not my oldest’s biological father they act like it. Sometimes it’s like I’m the one that came into their relationship late. They are very similar in their mannerisms and hobbies. My two youngest sometimes are the only thing that can get me giggling. They are so exciting. I am very glad that my husband and I decided to have them so close together. The only thing better would have been to have them as twins. In th early morning I hear them giggling and laughing in their room speaking their own laungauge that they have already made up. I only have these fascinating children and the chance to enjoy them and be a mom because of my wonderful husband. After the second date I was in love. Don’t know why, seeing as he still drives me nuts, but I am in love. Sometimes he gets me so completely I don’t know how I survived without him. Other times I just go for a drive.

I am now a stay at home after being a single parent for 10 years. It’s funny how more difficult and easy my life is. As a single parent I worked, participated in t-ball, boy scouts and part-time college. I was the one that called the shots. Now I don’t work or go to school, I still volunteer heavily in my community and in my children’s lives, but it’s so hard not being able to call the shots. I keep making decisions and my husband keeps gently reminding me that he would appreciate it if next time I would check with him first. Not so much to ask permission, but just to make sure we’re on the same page. That is probaly the most difficult part for me. It’s nice to be home when my son comes home from school, to have energy to work with him and organize his youth group, but that whole not being the boss thing gets a little annoying.

I have more things to discuss but I have kids to take care of, so I will try again tomorrw. Even if no one else likes what I have to say, it was nice to write down my thoughts.
